Montgomery County COVID-19 Wednesday Update – April 22nd

Based on the information found on state and county’s COVID-19 website and the Commissioner’s Tuesday’s 3:00 PM press conference, here is a snapshot of the spread of coronavirus across Montgomery County, the Delaware Valley and Pennsylvania.

As of 10:00 AM Tuesday morning, Montgomery County reported 69 new COVID-19, down from the 184 new cases reported Monday. Tuesday’s drop in the number of new cases is due to fewer test results being reported to the county. 

The 69 new cases, 36 of which were females, came from 35 municipalities and range in age from 3-months to 95 years-old and fall in the following age brackets:

  • 0 to 9 – 1
  • 10 to 19 – 1
  • 20 to 29 – 6
  • 30 to 39 – 12
  • 40 to 49 – 8
  • 50 to 59 – 10
  • 60 to 69 – 7
  • 70 to 79 – 11
  • 80 to 89 – 9
  • 90 to 99 – 4
  • 100 to 109 – 0

The 69 new positive cases brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 2,989 countywide.

Of those 2,989 confirmed cases, 1,365 are male, 1,595 are female.

The average age of individuals with COVID-19 across the county is 55.7 years-old with the youngest patient being a 1-month-old baby and a 110 year-old Abington man, the oldest.

Sixtyone of the county’s 62 municipalities are home to at least one individual with a positive COVID-19 diagnosis.

Of those 61 municipalities, only one, Bryn Athyn Borough in the county’s southeast corner, reports zero cases of COVID-19.

Four of the County’s 62 municipalities – Lower Merion (294), Springfield (239), Cheltenham (232) and Abington (222), account for 989 (33%) of the positive cases countywide.

The County continues to monitor the 75 Department of Health certified long-term care centers and approximately 550 congregant care facilities across Montgomery County for instances of COVID-19.

Of the 1,164 cases reported at these centers through Tuesday morning, 787 were residents and the balance, 377 cases, were of staff members of the care facility.

As of Tuesday, 83 of those facilities, up from 82 on Monday, have the following number of residents or staff with COVID-19:

  • 39 facilities with 1 to 5 cases
  • 15 facilities with 6 to 10 cases
  • 3 facilities with 11 to 15 cases
  • 7 facilities with 16 to 20 cases
  • 2 facilities with 21 to 25 cases
  • 1 facility with 26 to 30 cases
  • 3 facilities with 31 to 35 cases
  • 4 facilities with 36 to 40 cases
  • 2 facilities with 41 to 45 cases
  • 1 facility with 46 to 50 cases
  • 3 facilities with 51 to 55 cases
  • 1 facility with 56 to 60 cases
  • 1 facility with 61 to 65 cases
  • 1 facility with 76 to 80 cases

Eight new coronavirus related death of individuals ranging in age from 62 to 96 years-old were reported in Montgomery County on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s deaths move the county’s COVID-19 death toll to 172, 107 of which were residents or staff of long-term or congregate care facilities in the county.

Ninety one (53%) of Montgomery County’s 172 COVID-19 deaths are in five municipalities; Springfield Township (34), Upper Gwynedd Township (20), Upper Providence (13), Abington (14), and Lower Gwynedd (10).

The county’s COVID-19 death toll of 172 is 11% of the 1,564 deaths attributed to the coronavirus statewide.

The County’s 2,989 COVID-19 cases represent 8.7-percent of the 34,528 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases across Pennsylvania.

By comparison, as of noon Tuesday when the state updated their coronavirus count, with the exception of Philadelphia County with 9,391 COVID-19 positive cases and 363 deaths, neighboring and surrounding counties all report fewer positive coronavirus cases and deaths than Montgomery County’s tally:
