Montgomery County COVID-19 Tuesday Update – April 21st

Based on the information found on state and county’s COVID-19 website and the Commissioner’s Monday’s 3:00 PM press conference , here is a snapshot of the spread of coronavirus across Montgomery County, the Delaware Valley and Pennsylvania.

As of 10:00 AM Monday morning, Montgomery County reported 184 new COVID-19, up from the 116 new cases reported Sunday. 

The 184 new cases, 104 of which were females, came from 33 municipalities and range in age from 5 to 99 years-old and fall in the following age brackets:

  • 0 to 9 – 2
  • 10 to 19 – 1
  • 20 to 29 – 13
  • 30 to 39 – 24
  • 40 to 49 – 24
  • 50 to 59 – 24
  • 60 to 69 – 36
  • 70 to 79 – 19
  • 80 to 89 – 26
  • 90 to 99 – 14
  • 100 to 109 – 1

The 184 new positive cases brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 2,923 countywide.

Of those 2,923 confirmed cases, 1,333 are male, 1,561 are female.

The average age of individuals with COVID-19 across the county is 55.5 years-old with the youngest patient being a 1-month-old baby and a 110 year-old Abington man, the oldest.

Sixtyone of the county’s 62 municipalities are home to at least one individual with a positive COVID-19 diagnosis.

Of those 61 municipalities, only one, Bryn Athyn Borough in the county’s southeast corner, reports zero cases of COVID-19.

Four of the County’s 62 municipalities – Lower Merion (292), Springfield (235), Cheltenham (225) and Abington (214), account for 966 (33%) of the positive cases countywide.

The County continues to monitor the 75 Department of Health certified long-term care centers and approximately 550 congregant care facilities across Montgomery County for instances of COVID-19.

Of the 1067 cases reported at these centers through Monday morning, 707 were residents and the balance, 360 cases, were of staff members of the care facility.

As of Monday, 82 of those facilities have the following number of residents or staff with COVID-19:

  • 44 facilities with 1 to 5 cases
  • 11 facilities with 6 to 10 cases
  • 5 facilities with 11 to 15 cases
  • 4 facilities with 16 to 20 cases
  • 1 facility with 21 to 25 cases
  • 1 facility with 26 to 30 cases
  • 5 facilities with 31 to 35 cases
  • 3 facilities with 36 to 40 cases
  • 3 facilities with 41 to 45 cases
  • 1 facility with 46 to 50 cases
  • 2 facilities with 51 to 55 cases
  • 1 facility with 61 to 65 cases
  • 1 facility with 76 to 80 cases

Nine new coronavirus related death of individuals ranging in age from 61 to 94 years-old, all females, were reported in Montgomery County on Monday.

Monday’s deaths move the county’s COVID-19 death toll to 164.

Ninety (54.9%) of Montgomery County’s 164 COVID-19 deaths are in five municipalities; Springfield Township (34), Upper Gwynedd Township (20), Upper Providence (13), Abington (13), and Lower Gwynedd (10).

The county’s COVID-19 death toll of 164 is 13.6% of the 1,204 deaths attributed to the coronavirus statewide.

The County’s 2,923 COVID-19 cases represent 8.8-percent of the 33,232 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases across Pennsylvania.

By comparison, as of noon Monday when the state updated their coronavirus count, with the exception of Philadelphia County with 9,038 COVID-19 positive cases and 262 deaths, neighboring and surrounding counties all report fewer positive coronavirus cases and deaths than Montgomery County’s tally:
