U.S. Rep. Madeleine Dean, who is seeking a second term in Montgomery County congressional district, is one of many politicians who are having to adapt to campaigning under a pandemic, writes Chris Brennan for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

With social distancing currently now a necessity, Dean found a way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day without going out. The Democratic congresswoman organized a party on the teleconferencing website Zoom.

She was joined by several dozen supporters who took turns telling Dean the “most random things” they had to do or buy to deal with the coronavirus crisis. And while the participants shared some serious concerns, there were also plenty of jokes, Irish music, and toasts.

“This is such a serious time,” said Dean. “But it is also an important reminder of how connected we are. And so, lucky us that we live at least in this time, that we could connect.”

This might turn out to be crucial come April 28 primary, since knocking on doors – which is usually being done at this period in the election cycle – is currently not an option.
