Spring is just around the corner and Valley Forge and Montgomery County are already alive with some of the biggest events of the year.

In March, kids can Join the Continental Army at Valley Forge Park, foodies can taste the best that Montco has to offer during Restaurant Weeks in King of Prussia and Hatboro, and shoppers will delight at the Sugarloaf Crafts Festival.

And that’s only the beginning. Here is Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board’s look at their favorite events coming to Valley Forge and Montgomery County this March:

PHILADELPHIA FLOWER SHOW

February 29 – March 8 – Pennsylvania Convention Center

The 2020 PHS Philadelphia Flower Show, “Riviera Holiday,” will transport visitors to the Mediterranean Riviera, a region renowned for both its aesthetic horticulture and its sustainability. The world’s leading floral and garden designers will immerse visitors in the sights, scents, and tastes of the region as citrus trees and sweeps of lavender will form a vision of Riviera’s life along intimate pathways to a whole new crop of experiences, garden displays, and artistic design. KING OF PRUSSIA RESTAURANT WEEK – March 9 – 15 – King of Prussia

KOP Restaurant Week returns with incredible prix-fixe lunch and dinner menus. A portion of the proceeds benefits Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). HONORING AFRICAN AMERICAN COMPOSERS ON FIRST SUNDAYS – March 1 – Centre Theater

Steve Kramer Entertainment Group will perform a recital with classical and popular music and honor compositions by African-American composers.  Composer Michael Shinzo Crawford will partner in this performance.  Art, door prizes, raffle drawings, and Black History trivia contest, vendor tables with artifacts and merchandise. hosted by Vance Community Partners Music and Art School and Steve Kramer, Cellist.  Door opens at 2:00, music begins at 5:00.  Admission free. TASTE OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY – March 26 – Montgomery County Community College

Come and taste samples from a variety of restaurants, breweries and other food establishments. There will also be entertainment and a silent auction! Tickets are $50 each and can be purchased online or at the Library. Purchase your tickets today! Participating Food & Beverage Establishments. Proceeds benefit the North Wales Area Library, an American Star Library.

MINERAL TREASURES AND FOSSIL FAIR – March 28 – 29 – LuLu Shrine Complex

Show and sale of minerals, fossils, jewelry, beads, toys, books, and much more. Learning activities include a Fossil Dig for kids, and the Kids’ Mineral Corner with free specimens, and viewing of minerals under microscopes. Exhibits, lectures, and displays of personal collections. Uniformed scouts and leaders admitted free. Door prizes every hour, food concession, and ample free parking.   Presented by the Philadelphia Mineralogical Society and the Delaware Valley Paleontological Society. Taste of the Market @suburbansquare a is multi-day event with local chefs demonstrating their favorite dishes March 16 – 19 at 11:00 am. READING RAILROAD MUSEUM TOUR

Participants will first meet at the Reading Railroad Heritage Museum for a tour. Throughout its 30-year history, the Reading Company Technical & Historical Society has acquired the largest collection of railroad rolling stock dedicated to a single railroad in the United States. Comprised of over 70 freight and passenger cars and locomotives, the Society’s collection includes several historically significant examples of rail equipment, including the first production model of the General Motors GP-30 diesel-electric locomotive.

BEER TASTING & AN EARLY DINNER AT 1787

Following the museum tour, participants will head to the 1787 Brewery (43 South Fourth Street, Hamburg, PA), which is just a half-mile away from the museum. The 1787 Brewing Company has 10 beers on tap! As part of this event, you’ll get a beer flight so you can try several varieties. ADVENTURE MONTCO – Adventurous Events

INTERNATIONAL PADDLING FILM FESTIVAL – March 26 – Colonial Theatre

Join us for this year’s best paddling films. You’ll be inspired to explore rivers, lakes, and oceans.

View films about hairy whitewater action, sea kayakers exploring remote coastlines, northern river canoe expeditions, international river travel films, motivating environmental documentaries and grueling kayak fishing battles. The Paddling Film Festival is an international adventure film tour presenting the world’s best paddling films of the year. Schuylkill River Greenways is hosting the film festival for the first time at the historical Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. Built in 1903, the “Colonial Opera House” became a preeminent venue for movies, traveling shows and live entertainment throughout the 20th century. MALIK NEAL AND DANTE JONES: SUPPORTING PHILADELPHIANS CAUGHT IN THE CASH BAIL SYSTEM – March 3 – Eastern State Penitentiary 

Malik Neal and Dante Jones will describe the work of the Philadelphia Bail Fund to support people incarcerated simply for their inability to pay bail. Malik Neal is a founding member and director of the Philadelphia Bail Fund, a local nonprofit organization that works to prevent the unnecessary jailing of low-income Philadelphians by posting bail and advocating for reform. Dante Jones is a North Philly resident and a community activist. In 2018, Dante was detained pretrial in Philadelphia’s jails, convicted of no crime other than an inability to pay for his freedom. WHARTON ESHERICK MUSEUM TOUR – March 13 – Wharton Esherick Studio

Join us for an immersive tour through the home/studio of Wharton Esherick, preserved much as it was when the artist lived and worked there.

REGISTER TO ATTEND: This event is free but participants must provide their own transportation to the museum. Spacing is limited so to guarantee your spot, please submit a free registration with the total number of tickets you will need for your party.

Join Schuylkill River Greenways for a private and free tour of the Wharton Esherick Museum, home and studio of famed American artist Wharton Esherick located atop Valley Forge Mountain in Chester County. The museum campus is set on 12 wooded acres and comprised of multiple buildings including Wharton Esherick’s Studio, now the centerpiece of the museum. Esherick’s highly individual, hand-built Studio was constructed over a 40-year period beginning in 1926, incorporating Arts and Crafts, Expressionist, and organic designs. Two years later Esherick began his 1928 Expressionist garage, now the visitor center. In 1973, just one year after its official opening as a museum, the Studio was added to the National Register of Historic Places. POTTSGROVE MANOR TOUR  – March 20 – Pottsgrove Manor

We invite you to meet Schuylkill River Greenways at Pottsgrove Manor for a tour of the grounds and historic mansion. The tour will include a mini demonstration and an opportunity to view special highlighted 18th-century reproduction items specifically selected from their collection. Pottsgrove Manor exemplifies the restrained elegance of early Georgian architecture popular with wealthy English gentry during the mid-18th century. Built-in 1752 for John Potts, ironmaster and founder of Pottstown, the mansion was situated on a nearly 1,000-acre plantation, which by 1762 included the town of “Pottsgrove.” Four acres of the original property remains today and continues to have its original charm and beauty. The mansion has been restored to its glory and recreates the lifestyle and times of the Potts family.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE

HANDICRAFTS IN THE HOME EXHIBIT – March 1 – January 31 – Pennypacker Mills

Men and women were known for their handicrafts that would be displayed and used in their homse.  These ranged from frakturs, theorem paintings, embroideries, wax fruit displays, china painting, quilts and more.  The exhibit will feature these items, many of which were created by Pennypacker family members. The exhibit is included on all guided tours of the Pennypacker mansion. Tours take approximately 1 hour, last tour at 3 pm.  FREE, suggested donation  $2/person.   CLICK HERE FOR MORE

Willow Hill is a burst of color on the canvas of modern country music. The husband and wife duo of Alexandra & C.T. Fields has earned a loyal fan base across the entire United States with Alexandra’s iconic soulful voice and C.T.’s infectious guitar riffs. NOAH REID – March 15 – Ardmore Music Hall

Toronto born Noah Reid is known mostly for his work on television, film and stage. It wasn’t until recently that the world got a glimpse of his serious musical talent. In 2015, Reid was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for Best Original Song in the feature film “People Hold On”. In 2017, Reid’s soulful acoustic cover of Tina Turner’s pop hit “The Best” on CBC’s Schitt’s Creek cracked #3 on the iTunes Canada Charts. That directed fans all over the world to Reid’s 2016 debut solo album “Songs From A Broken Chair”. With a songwriting style that touches on the singer-songwriters of the seventies and an honest, contemporary delivery, Reid is a combination of old and new, of polished and rusted over. Stephen Robert Nesta “Raggamuffin” Marley (born April 20, 1972) is a Jamaican-American musician who is the son of Bob Marley and his wife Rita Marley. Stephen is an eight-time Grammy Award winner, three times as a solo artist, twice as a producer of younger brother Damian Marley’s Halfway Tree and Welcome to Jamrock albums, and a further three times as a member of his older brother Ziggy Marley’s group Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE

RUNAWAY GIN (PHISH TRIBUTE) – March 27 – Ardmore Music Hall

With over 305 shows performed since their inception in 2014, Runaway Gin is the World’s Most Active Phish Tribute Band. They have also been voted the Best Phish Tribute in the World two years in a row. On July 4th, 2015, after the second show of the Grateful Dead GD50 run, Runaway Gin sold out the Hard Rock Cafe in Chicago and catapulting them from a Southeastern regional act onto the National scene.

The members of Runaway Gin are long time Phish fans who have united with the goal of creating musical moments inspired by Phish. The band’s song list is constantly growing and their improvisational and communication skills are constantly developing independently and together. ANANSI THE TRICKSTER – March 21 – Ambler Theater

The clever spider of African folklore takes the stage in this spirited production. Long ago, the great Sky-god, Nyame, kept all the stories in the world locked up away from everyone. To him the stories were too precious to be shared with ordinary folk.   Anansi, the clever spider asked Nyame to return the stories to earth. After much pestering, the Sky-god agreed to release the stories, but only if the spider could pay his price. And what a price it was! Nyame would release the stories if Anansi could bring him the Hungry Python, the Sharp-toothed Leopard, the Stinging Hornets and the Unseen Fairy.
