READING RAILROAD MUSEUM TOUR

Participants will first meet at the Reading Railroad Heritage Museum for a tour. Throughout its 30-year history, the Reading Company Technical & Historical Society has acquired the largest collection of railroad rolling stock dedicated to a single railroad in the United States. Comprised of over 70 freight and passenger cars and locomotives, the Society’s collection includes several historically significant examples of rail equipment, including the first production model of the General Motors GP-30 diesel-electric locomotive.

BEER TASTING & AN EARLY DINNER AT 1787

Following the museum tour, participants will head to the 1787 Brewery (43 South Fourth Street, Hamburg, PA), which is just a half-mile away from the museum. The 1787 Brewing Company has 10 beers on tap! As part of this event, you’ll get a beer flight so you can try several varieties. Malik Neal and Dante Jones will describe the work of the Philadelphia Bail Fund to support people incarcerated simply for their inability to pay bail. Malik Neal is a founding member and director of the Philadelphia Bail Fund, a local nonprofit organization that works to prevent the unnecessary jailing of low-income Philadelphians by posting bail and advocating for reform. Dante Jones is a North Philly resident and a community activist. In 2018, Dante was detained pretrial in Philadelphia’s jails, convicted of no crime other than an inability to pay for his freedom. Join Schuylkill River Greenways for a private and free tour of the Wharton Esherick Museum, home and studio of famed American artist Wharton Esherick located atop Valley Forge Mountain in Chester County. The museum campus is set on 12 wooded acres and comprised of multiple buildings including Wharton Esherick’s Studio, now the centerpiece of the museum. Esherick’s highly individual, hand-built Studio was constructed over a 40-year period beginning in 1926, incorporating Arts and Crafts, Expressionist, and organic designs. Two years later Esherick began his 1928 Expressionist garage, now the visitor center. In 1973, just one year after its official opening as a museum, the Studio was added to the National Register of Historic Places. We invite you to meet Schuylkill River Greenways at Pottsgrove Manor for a tour of the grounds and historic mansion. The tour will include a mini demonstration and an opportunity to view special highlighted 18th-century reproduction items specifically selected from their collection. Pottsgrove Manor exemplifies the restrained elegance of early Georgian architecture popular with wealthy English gentry during the mid-18th century. Built-in 1752 for John Potts, ironmaster and founder of Pottstown, the mansion was situated on a nearly 1,000-acre plantation, which by 1762 included the town of “Pottsgrove.” Four acres of the original property remains today and continues to have its original charm and beauty. The mansion has been restored to its glory and recreates the lifestyle and times of the Potts family.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE

Men and women were known for their handicrafts that would be displayed and used in their homse.  These ranged from frakturs, theorem paintings, embroideries, wax fruit displays, china painting, quilts and more.  The exhibit will feature these items, many of which were created by Pennypacker family members. In 2015, Reid was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for Best Original Song in the feature film “People Hold On”. In 2017, Reid’s soulful acoustic cover of Tina Turner’s pop hit “The Best” on CBC’s Schitt’s Creek cracked #3 on the iTunes Canada Charts. That directed fans all over the world to Reid’s 2016 debut solo album “Songs From A Broken Chair”. With a songwriting style that touches on the singer-songwriters of the seventies and an honest, contemporary delivery, Reid is a combination of old and new, of polished and rusted over. With over 305 shows performed since their inception in 2014, Runaway Gin is the World’s Most Active Phish Tribute Band. They have also been voted the Best Phish Tribute in the World two years in a row. On July 4th, 2015, after the second show of the Grateful Dead GD50 run, Runaway Gin sold out the Hard Rock Cafe in Chicago and catapulting them from a Southeastern regional act onto the National scene.

The members of Runaway Gin are long time Phish fans who have united with the goal of creating musical moments inspired by Phish. The band’s song list is constantly growing and their improvisational and communication skills are constantly developing independently and together.
