More than three decades after purchasing their Ambler home, Steve and Carol Goldberg know they made the right choice by not giving up on the one they set their sights on, writes Sally A. Downey for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The pair wanted to buy the show house in a new residential development, but the developer kept hoping they would settle on another home. But despite seeing other homes, the pair held firm.

The show home had everything they wanted. It was a two-story Spanish Colonial revival with four bedrooms and custom features that included gold-and-glass light fixtures made in Italy.

Finally, realizing the couple was not going to budge, the developer agreed to sell it to them.

The date of the sale was easy to remember, said Steve, “8/8/88.”

The couple chose décor that works with the home’s Mediterranean style and furnished it with family help.

Over the years, they have also made some major renovations, including replacing the backyard wood deck with an expansive brick patio covered by a roof made of solar panels.
