Montgomery County officials are looking for mask donations as health-care workers continue to face a shortage of protective gear, writes Laura McCrystal for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

During a Friday afternoon news conference, Montgomery County Commissioner Valerie Arkoosh issued a public call for donations of face masks.

“We are taking masks of any type, so if for instance maybe you are a landscaping business or a business that uses certain cleaning products that requires a mask,” said Arkoosh. “If you are at the moment not working and you have masks that you would be willing to donate to the county, we can use masks of any type.”

She asked residents who have spare masks to donate to call the county at 610-631-3000.

This includes those who may have any kind of protective gear such as local dentists, painters, contractors, plastic surgeons, and anybody else who may work with chemicals.

In other counties, people have already started offering donations. Anisha Gupta, a paper conservator at the American Philosophical Society Library & Museum in Philadelphia, donated medical-grade masks and gloves to the Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management.
