The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards named Brendan Hung of Bryn Mawr and Savannah Zeaman of Warminster the state’s top youth volunteers of 2020.

The nationwide program honors young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism. Hung and Zeaman will receive $1,000 each, an engraved silver medallion, and a trip to the national event in Washington D.C. in May. There 10 students will be named America’s top youth volunteers of 2020.

Hung was nominated by Radnor High School.

He started the Homeless Youth Project, a nonprofit organization that has so far distributed over 7,000 support kits to homeless youth shelters. It also campaigns to raise international awareness of youth homelessness through its chapters around the world.

Hung was prompted to do something when met a homeless boy, Isaiah, who was his own age. The boy said his favorite things were socks.

“I soon decided I wanted to collect socks and other useful items for Isaiah and other homeless kids,” said Hung.

After recruiting volunteers from his school Hung founded the HYP club and started spreading awareness about the crisis in youth homelessness. Eventually, he managed to convince his friends in other states and countries to launch their own HYP chapters.
