The latest game at the Lower Merion High School gym that bears the name of Kobe Bryant featured an emotional video tribute to the late basketball legend, writes Allison Steele for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The video featured highlights from the years when Bryant soared across that same basketball court and from his future NBA career.

Students, teachers, and alumni watched the video in near silence. Some were crying and some bowed their heads in silence for a moment.

“It’s been a difficult time for our school community,” said Lower Merion principal Sean Hughes. “Because of Kobe, Lower Merion is known all over the world.”

The ceremony that took place between the school’s scheduled varsity girls’ and boys’ basketball games also honored Gianna, Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter, along with the other seven victims of the deadly helicopter crash.

In addition to the video, a framed jersey with Bryant’s name and the number 33 was unveiled by coach Gregg Downer and assistant coach Doug Young, Bryant’s former teammate. That is the number the star wore while he played for the Aces.
