Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro visited Cheltenham High School, where he sat down with a group of student equity ambassadors to talk about social justice reform and other important issues, writes Jim Melwert for KYW Newsradio.

“What we’re hearing is their concern about the division in this country, their ideas for how to bring people together, their ideas to make sure that everybody’s voice counts,” said Shapiro.

Shapiro is meeting with students all over the state to learn about the issues they face and to determine how best his office can fit into shaping social justice reform.

He explained that listening to the students can help his office tailor the approach for how it crafts new policies or how it makes arrests.

“When we were growing up, we didn’t deal with a lot of the issues they are dealing with today,” he said. “The inequities in the system, the social justice challenges, the mental health challenges, cyberbullying. And these are real issues.”

According to Cheltenham High Vice Principal Craig Metcalfe, the school is starting a class centered on social justice involvement next year.
