For the 11th year, Lankenau Medical Center, a part of Main Line Health, has been named one of the nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals by IBM Watson Health (formerly Truven Health Analytics). The study spotlights the top-performing cardiovascular hospitals in the U.S. based on a balanced scorecard of publicly available clinical, operational, and patient satisfaction metrics and data.
This study is part of the IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals program, which uses independent and objective research to analyze hospital and health system performance in key clinical and operational areas for selected cardiovascular procedures and medical care. Indicators include:
- risk-adjusted inpatient mortality index
- risk-adjusted complications index
- mean 30-day risk-adjusted mortality rate
- mean 30-day risk-adjusted readmission rate
- severity-adjusted length of stay
- case mix- and wage-adjusted inpatient cost per case
- 30-day episode payment
- adjusted operating profit margin
The study has been conducted annually since 1998.
“This award exemplifies Lankenau Heart Institute’s profound commitment to providing advanced, high-quality cardiovascular care throughout the Philadelphia region and beyond,” said Phillip D. Robinson, president of Lankenau Medical Center. “Our clinical team works collaboratively to provide expert, patient-centered, human care, with a dedicated focus on superior quality and outcomes, which consistently demonstrates our capabilities as a national leader in delivering advanced cardiac care.”
Lankenau Heart Institute’s cardiac experts have received national recognition for their specialized minimally invasive treatment options. Its cardiac surgeons have more experience in minimally invasive robotic CABG (coronary artery bypass graft) procedures than any other hospital in the country. Its cardiac team has also been recognized for treating heart attack, stroke, and cardiac arrest patients, while improving overall quality of care and patient outcomes.
Additionally, Lankenau has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as being among the top five hospitals in the Philadelphia region, as well as one of the top 10 hospitals in Pennsylvania.
“Our highly-skilled clinical staff works tirelessly to provide the highest quality of cardiovascular care to our patients, and this recognition serves as validation of that commitment to excellence,” said Dr. William Gray, system chief of cardiovascular diseases and president of Lankenau Heart Institute.
