The Mystery of Edwin Drood, a musical adapted by Rupert Holmes from a Charles Dickens novel, is currently enchanting audiences at Steel River Playhouse in Pottstown, writes The Montco Explorer.

The delightful show’s debut kicked off the theater’s 2019/2020 season and will be running until October 20.

The musical presents a story within a story as it develops at the Music Hall Royale in Victorian London.

The “actors” within the tale are debuting their version of Edwin Drood, who is incidentally also a part of the cast. When Drood ends up dead with no body to be found, the story turns into a real whodunit with everybody as a suspect.

The audience also plays a major role in the play as the regulars at the Music Hall. The cast of characters often descends among them as they try to curry favor for themselves and provide their opinions on who they think the killer could be.

The show is directed by Michael Licata and musically directed by Julie Eurillo.
