Merger Between Conshohocken-Based SMG and AEG Facilities Creates World’s Largest Venue Management Company

By

The merger between West Conshohocken-based SMG and AEG Facilities into ASM Global will create the largest venue management company in the world, writes Suhauna Hussain for the Los Angeles Times.

The new entity will be owned jointly by AEG and Onex, the private equity firm that is SMG’s parent company.

ASM’s portfolio boasts more than 300 venues on five continents, including Staples Center in Los Angeles.

And while the new company will be headquartered in Los Angeles, some of its key operations will be based in West Conshohocken.

The combined company will be led by Bob Newman, who previously served as president of AEG Facilities. Meanwhile, Wes Westley, former CEO and president of SMG, will focus on key strategic growth initiatives and ensure seamless integration.

“This is a merger of very complementary companies,” said Newman, explaining that while AEG owns and runs venues, SMG provides management services.

In addition, he said, AEG has a large presence in Australia, while SMG has an established footprint in Britain.

“We will have this amazing global platform to serve this industry that is growing, and to focus on the live event experience,” said Newman.
