Long-time philanthropists and Penn State alumni Arnold and Bette Hoffman have added $1M to their previous $2M Child Study Center Commitment.

Long-time philanthropists and Penn State alumni Arnold and Bette Hoffman have added $1 million to their previous $2 million commitment to the Penn State Child Study Center in the College of the Liberal Arts, writes Susan Burlingame for the Penn State News.

The Child Study Center is dedicated to promoting children’s development and well-being by integrating research, education, and community outreach.

“Arn and Bette are terrific examples of the life-long relationships that we see form time and time again at Penn State,” said Rich Bundy, vice president for development and alumni relations.

The Hoffmans started their philanthropic legacy years ago with small gifts to their synagogue and other Philadelphia area causes. Their first gift to Penn State was a scholarship to help Abington Township students afford education at the university.

“That’s when it all started,” said Bette Hoffman. “It just grew from there.”

But the pair, who recently celebrated their 60 years together, says Penn State is their philanthropic priority because they only have happy memories of it. Including the memory of their first meeting.

“The truth is, we are just proud Penn Staters,” said Arnold Hoffman.
