The case against the wealthy financier Jeffrey Epstein is moving forward thanks to Julie K. Brown, an investigative journalist for The Miami Herald who began her career at The Pendulum, the student newspaper at Pennridge High School in Perkasie, writes Tiffany Hsu for The New York Times.

For over two years, Brown has been interviewing women who say that when they were girls, they were part of a sex ring run by Epstein. She investigated other avenues of the case as well, including a secret plea deal engineered by Alexander Acosta, a member of President Trump’s cabinet, who recently resigned because of the case. This helped Epstein avoid any federal charges related to the accusations.

Her work identified around 80 alleged victims and went on to win a number of journalism awards. This included a George Polk Award for Justice Reporting.

In addition, Brown’s work helped the prosecution team build a case against Epstein who was arrested over the weekend on sex trafficking charges.

Geoffrey Berman, a federal prosecutor, publicly recognized her contribution by stating at a news conference that his team had been “assisted by some excellent investigative journalism.” Read more about Julie K. Brown at The New York Times by clicking here.
