The grisly murder of Alice Hufnagle Lauman in East Norriton Township was the focus of last week’s episodes of The Killer Beside Me, Investigation Discovery’s true crime series, writes Ellen Gray for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Hufnagle Lauman was raped and strangled in her home a few days before Thanksgiving in 2002. In May the following year, her family offered a $15,000 reward to anyone who could provide information that would lead to her killer.

“We did not get any leads from the reward, unfortunately,” said Susan Benatti, one of the victim’s daughters, in the episode.

As part of the investigation, the police interviewed several suspects. Finally, based on crime-scene evidence, Jeffrey Ivan Vample was charged.

Vample was working at the Giant supermarket where Huffnagle Lauman was a pharmacy technician. To avoid the death penalty, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life in prison in 2004.

In addition to interviews with the family and investigators, the Wednesday’s episode of The Killer Beside Me included some graphic re-enactments. However, some of the names of those involved in the case have been changed. Read more about the case at The Philadelphia Inquirer by clicking here.
