State Rep. Steve McCarter, D-Montgomery, announced several state grants through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquencyawarded to agencies within Montgomery County, including a substantial grant to the Women’s Center of Montgomery County in Elkins Park.

The statewide funding through the PCCD is designated to help improve the justice system and to make communities safer for all citizens.

The Women’s Center of Montgomery County was allotted $366,228 toward the Domestic Violence Core Services through the Victims of Crime Act

“These agencies exist to help our citizens and victims of crime, to educate and improve our communities,” McCarter said. “It’s great news for everybody in that this funding continues to empower victims of abuse and other crimes.”

Several other Montgomery County agencies are slated to receive grant money through the Victims of Crime Act:

• Child Advocacy Center of Montgomery County: $89,324.
• Laurel House: $366,226.
• Mothers Against Drunk Driving – Pennsylvania State Office: $225,592.
• Victim Services Center of Montgomery County: $696,725.

A grant via the State Violence and Delinquency Prevention Program went to:

• Family Service of Montgomery County to expand the Positive Parenting Program: $150,000.

Funding from the Programs Assisting Victims went to:

• Child Advocacy Center of Montgomery County to develop its Prevention and Outreach Program: $100,000.

And Justice Assistance Grants (Under $10K Funds) went to these agencies:

• Township of Marlborough: $10,047.
• Upper Dublin Township: $9,569.
• Upper Providence Township: $9,992.
