Starting Tuesday April 23, North Montco Technical Career Center in Lansdale (NMTCC) will offer Fine Woodworking as a Continuing Education course.

Students will build a beautiful end table from walnut under the direction of master craftsman, Nick Martier. In addition to learning the basics of woodworking and finishing, the course will cover shop safety, proper use of the jointer, planer, table saw and miter saw.

Demonstrations and practice for students include dado, rabbet, and dovetail joints. Students will learn how to raise the grain while sanding and to make and apply a three-part varnish mix to the finished product. The cost of the course is $625.00* and all building materials are included. The course will run Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Martier, a former contractor, found his passion for woodworking when he was 13 years old in a compulsory woodshop class. He attended a technical high school and trained as a carpenter still while continuing to sharpen his wood-crafting skills. Today, Martier’s career involves creating custom pieces for clients made from locally sourced hardwood.
