Flagship Cinemas paid $1.05 million for the property at 790 Laurelwood Road in North Coventry, according to property records. The theater has been closed for six years.

Flagship Cinemas, a movie theater chain based in Cambridge, Mass., recently purchased the former Carmike Coventry 8 located on the outskirts of Pottstown and plans to open a “premium” movie theater in that location. The purchase deal was for $1.05 million for the property on Laurelwood Road.

The four-parcel property was sold by Plymouth Meeting real estate company Pennmark Management Co. Inc. which had acquired the property, along with the Coventry Mall, in 2016 for $15.6 million. The new movie theater is scheduled to open in the spring, according to Bob Sichelsteil, chief  financial officer for Pennmark, writes Natalie Kostelni in the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Flagship operates 18 theaters from Maine down to Florida. Its Pottstown location will be its third in Pennsylvania, joining Palmyra, which was its first, and Matamoras.
