Valentine’s Day date ideas from day-drinking to DIY cocktails

By

Make your date swoon with your cocktail skills by using Boardroom Spirits’ database of recipes to craft the perfect drink.

For the cynics to the romantics from Center City to the burbs, Boardroom Spirits, 575 W 3rd Sttreet in Lansdale, has a V-day plan for everyone.

1. Cheap (yet fancy) day-drinking at Royal Boucherie. Meet your date for lunch and treat yourselves to $2 Boardroom cosmopolitan martinis when you order a lunch entreé. They are adorably pink, made with Boardroom’s all-natural FRESH Cranberry vodka, Boardroom triple sec and lime. Afternoon delight! Photo of Boardroom cosmo.

2. Sexy fries and cocktails in the suburbs. When the team behind The Butcher and Barkeep opened Northbound in the fall, their most asked question was, “where are the sexy fries?” Thin cut and topped with fresh herbs, parmesan, hollandaise and truffle oil, sexy fries’ reputation precedes them. The rest of the menu is uniquely Northbound, featuring daily house made pastas like lobster mac and cheese and Detroit-style pizza. The cocktail menu is engineered by Boardroom Spirits and runs the gamut from classic (the Cranberry Mule, $10, Boardroom cranberry vodka, Boardroom ginger vodka, lime and house ginger beer) to creative (the Smoke Stack Sour, $10, Northbound bourbon, lemon, orange oil, egg white and charcoal).

3. French macarons and French 75. Learn how to make classic drinks while sampling Red Velvet or White Chocolate Raspberry macarons at a Valentine’s Day cocktail workshop hosted by Boardroom Spirits in collaboration with Mixie Chics. A $43 ticket includes: hands-on mixology lesson where you’ll learn how to make three Boardroom Spirits cocktails, each paired with a Mixie Chics macaron; a trio of macarons to take home; a bottle of the Boardroom Spirits’ spirit of your choosing; and snacks during the workshop. Openings Thursday, Friday & Saturday night – book in advance, spots will sell out.

4. Be your own bartender. Make your date swoon with your cocktail skills by using Boardroom Spirits’ database of recipes to craft the perfect drink. Sort by base spirit and make your shopping list a day or two beforehand – the key to good drinks is good ingredients. Boardroom’s portfolio of products is available at Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores and the Reading Terminal Market Pour Collective. Our recommendation for an easy but very ~impressive~ and still pink! drink is the Cranberry Gin Drop.

CRANBERRY GIN DROP

INGREDIENTS

1.5 oz Boardroom Gin

1 oz Boardroom FRESH Cranberry

0.5 oz Sage Simple Syrup

0.25 oz Lime Juice

Sage Leaf, to garnish

METHOD – SAGE SIMPLE SYRUP:

Create the sage simple syrup by combining sugar, water, and fresh sage leaves in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and simmer for 5-10 minutes. Remove from heat, cover, and let the ingredients cool for 30-45 minutes. Strain the syrup and discard the sage. Refrigerate syrup in an airtight container.

METHOD – COCKTAIL:

Combine all ingredients in an ice-filled shaker. Shake until well chilled and double strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with a sage leaf.
