Top Stories: Time Out Sports Bar coming to Skippack
By Stan Huskey
Yoram and Maria Maman are not afraid of taking chances.
They took a chance on each other more than a few years ago, and they’ve been taking chances every step of the way since.

They met when they were young, working in Palermo’s Pizza in Blue Bell, the small one that used to be on Skippack Pike, not the larger place on DeKalb Pike they have now.
When Yoram came from Israel he found a job at the old Palermo’s and Maria, who believe it or not is actually from Palermo, was already working there. As time went by, they fell in love with each other, and they fell in love with the restaurant business.
They put their heads together and decided to buy the place, and now, 20 years later, there are six Palermo’s Pizza.
The second location was opened up in Lansdale. And then they opened a shop in Royersford, and Yoram brought in his nephew as a partner. And then Phoenixville was opened with a good friend, Domenico. And then another location in Trappe and yet another in Skippack.
They had a recipe for success and they weren’t afraid to try it out in new locations, and in each, the recipe has been well received.
But hey, this is a story about taking chances.
So let’s fast forward a few years and meet their son, Avi.
Avi had traveled a bit and ended up working in a ‘farm to table’ restaurant out in Colorado. When he finally returned to Pennsylvania he knew one thing for certain … he didn’t want to open up a pizza place.
Yoram and Maria decided to take a chance and help him open up Roots in East Norriton. A restaurant that is growing more popular by the day. A restaurant that is about as far from a traditional pizza shop as you can get.
That was a couple of years ago, so you know what that means, time to take another chance.
Skippack Township is about to welcome its newest restaurant; A sports bar.
Another departure from your traditional pizza place for sure, and an opportunity for the Mamans to take another chance.
They bought the old Brasserie and Road House on the main drag in Skippack, and they plan on taking it from a restaurant that serves lobster bisque and misto salad to a place that serves burgers and wings.
Work is underway on what will be the new Time Out Sports Bar in Skippack.
“We want it to be a sports bar, but a sports bar where the whole family can come,” Yoram said. “There’s not really a good sports bar in Skippack. We want you to bring you kids here. You don’t want to take your kids to a dive bar.”
They’re hoping to have the place open in a few short weeks so stay tuned.
More to come from the Mamans, a lot more!
