The Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board (VFTCB) is continuing the story of its Patriot Tales comic book by releasing a second issue alongside the March In event at Valley Forge National Historical Park on Wednesday, Dec. 19.

When last left, the first comic book in the series debuted to highlight the park’s history, as well as the VFTCB’s history brand, Patriot Trails, with the fictional story, “Washington the Spymaster.” Two kids – James and Lydia travel back in time, meet George Washington and embark on an exciting adventure to discover the area’s rich history.

Part II finishes the children’s story with a thrilling conclusion where they are able to thwart a plot against Washington and help him on a mission with the hopes of making it back to present day.

“This comic books makes history more family-friendly, and adds to the overall experience in Montco,” said Joe Tacynec, Creative Director for the VFTCB.

The free comic book also includes a section of puzzles to educate kids on historical facts, and features the Montgomery County mascot, Monty the Fox. It’s being distributed to community libraries, elementary schools, historic sites, 75 hotels, and at the VFTCB’s traveling kiosk during popular events throughout the year. A digital version can be downloaded at PatriotTrails.com.

The March In event at the park commemorates December 19, 1777 when General Washington led the Continental Army into Valley Forge for what would become a six-month encampment, and ultimately marking what became the turning point of the Revolutionary War. The park’s event includes candle-lit tours, musical performances, and an appearance by the Commander-in-Chief himself, portrayed by Dean Malissa.

While on-site, visitors can see the new temporary 5,760-square-foot visitor center in the main parking lot, find out about visitor services, explore the Encampment Store, the VFTCB information desk, take public tours, and watch the park orientation film while work begins on a $12 million renovation to the current visitor center. Updates to the center will include new windows, flooring, carpets and signage, energy efficient improvements, updated collections storage, expanded physical accessibility, modern fire protection, and security systems, as well as a new HVAC system.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in the late spring of 2020.

Guests can also learn more about the upcoming Valley Forge Revolutionary 5-Mile Run on April 28, 2019, which raises money for tourism projects at the park, and make their own encampment at one of Montgomery County’s 75 hotels.

“As an organization, we’re proud to partner with the Valley Forge National Historical Park to enhance the visitor experience from videos to comic books, and the annual Valley Forge Revolutionary Run in April,” said Edward Harris, Chief Marketing Officer for the VFTCB. “We will continue to highlight the wide range of exciting things to do.”
