Atlantic City could be beating the odds when it comes to long-term success

It hasn’t been smooth sailing for Atlantic City in recent years.

The shore point’s reputation has been marred by the closures of failed casinos, raising questions of its survival. Current tourism trends, however, are showing it has a shot at the long haul. AC earlier this year saw the openings of two new casino properties: Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City, a retooling of the Taj Mahal; and Ocean Resort Casino, which takes the place of the failed $2.4 billion Revel. writes Kenneth Hilario in the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The city is now performing well in key tourism performance markers, according to a new quarterly report from Stockton University’s Lloyd D. Levenson Institution of Gaming, Hospitality & Tourism at Stockton University, or LIGHT.

The two performance indicators show slow and steady year-over-year growth in their 12-month trailing totals, following declines after four casinos closed in 2014 as well as additional downward fluctuations and plateaus in 2016 after the Taj closed.
