Gigunitos Italian Sandwiches is being reborn. The first one is in front of the Home Depot near the intersection of Route 113 and Bethlehem Pike in Hilltown. A grand opening, including ribbon cutting, free Philly soft pretzels to the first 100 people, and live music by the Soul Sauce Band, was held Wednesday, May 23.

“We have two more locations coming,” owner Earnest Hargust, of Harleysville, said. “One of them’s Willow Grove and the other location will be in Warrington.” The plan is to begin franchising locations in about three years, he said, writes Bob Keeler in the Lansdale Reporter.

All the Gigunitos are located in front of Home Depot’s because of the foot traffic, he said.

“We kind of cater to the contractors,” with a place to get a meal on the go, he said.

Customers can sit down and eat there or call in an order to go, he said.

Gigunitos was started in 2006 by Johnny Gigunitos, who was involved in things such as feeding the homeless and helping members of minority communities, Hargust said.

“He wanted to start something where he could directly impact communities,” Hargust said.

Gigunitos has since died, Hargust said.
