NMS of Willow Grove gets ball rolling on new Horsham headquarters

NMS is not vacating its current headquarters once the move is completed. That space will be used by The Center for Forensic Science Research and Education, which was founded in 2010 by the Fredric Rieders Family Foundation. (MONTCO.today file photo)
Demand for NMS Labs’ forensic toxicology services is surging, thanks in large part to the growing need by law enforcement to identify and detect the latest synthetic opioid products hitting the streets. The Montgomery County company is so busy, it is getting ready to move into larger space that will double its size at a cost of about $17 million.  “We need space,” said Pierre Cassigneul, CEO of NMS. “It’s packed here. We don’t have any space left to expand.”

The 48-year-old company isn’t moving far. NMS (previously known as  National Medical Services) is relocating its headquarters from Willow Grove adjacent to the Pennsylvania Turnpike to a 100,000-square-foot facility, a few miles away off Welsh Road in Horsham, in a building that once served as the headquarters of NutriSystem,  writes John George   in the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Founded in 1970, NMS provides clinical and forensic laboratory services to law enforcement agencies, the justice system, and health care and pharmaceutical companies. Its clients include 2,000 state, county and city law enforcement and medical examiners in the United States and Canada. According to Cassigneul, more than half of all postmortem toxicology tests in the nation are performed by NMS Labs.

The company is also known for its ability it to rapidly develop new tests to detect emerging designer opioids and cannabinoids, and provide authorities with actionable intelligence to better address problems related to illicit substance abuse in their communities.
