Four-year-old Philadelphia Union Academy is hoping to find and train the next world-famous American soccer star who will make the sport more accessible for local fans, writes Michael Bradley for Main Line Today.
The program’s goal is to create a pipeline for the team and promote the sport nationwide. The academy is modeled after its European counterparts for students in grades 8 to 12.
“In order for the sport to become relevant in this country, we need to produce American stars,” said Richie Graham, a part-owner of Philadelphia Union.
