The number of Democratic candidates running in primaries for predominantly Republican 7th District in Pennsylvania will make it a fierce fight for the congressional seat, writes Bridget Bowman for Roll Call.

Democrats are hoping to flip the oddly shaped district that encompasses parts of Montgomery, Delaware, Chester, Berks, and Lancaster counties, by mobilizing voters who are dissatisfied with President Trump.

However before that, they have to overcome their internal wrangling over who will run against their Republican counterpart.

This year, voters in the primary can choose between a liberal state senator, a former staffer at Capitol Hill, a biomedical engineer, a real estate agent, an IT consultant, and an educator.

Out of this eclectic crowd, Senator Daylin Leach recently spoke in Coatesville to the local chapter of the Indivisible Mid Montgomery County group.

In his speech, Leach emphasized that the key to winning is to highlight how Democratic policies will improve people’s lives.

“We can be proud progressives and we can win elections that way,” said Leach. “I don’t think we do well when we try to pretend that we’re something we’re not.”
