Global steel manufacturer ArcelorMittal plans to lay off 150 of its workers from its Conshohocken rolling mill over the next year, writes Sam Wood for Philly.com.

“We are not closing the facility, we’re not idling the entire operation,” said spokeswoman Mary Beth Holdford, adding that the company is currently in the process of consolidating its plate operations.

The Conshohocken facility will also continue heat-treating, finishing, and inspecting steel rolled at its facilities in Coatesville and Burns Harbor.

According to Holdford, the consolidation and layoffs at the Montgomery County plant are the result of limited demand for steel “coupled by the ongoing surge of unfairly traded imports of steel.”

Leo W. Gerard, President of the United Steelworkers, called the announced layoffs another direct blow to the nation’s national security.

“Our soldiers deployed in harm’s way depend on products made in this facility in building Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected vehicles, Bradley land systems and all Navy Seapower systems,” he said.

The union also criticized President Trump for not completing an investigation into the impact of steel imports on national-security and for making steelworker jobs “secondary to tax cuts for the rich and powerful” until Congress finalizes tax reform.
