Narberth’s Amanda Levinson, one of the co-founders of NeedsList, has created an online tool that helps NGOs streamline the provision of aid, writes Federico Guerrin for Forbes.

Levinson saw the need for the tool after seeing non-profit groups around the country spending months collecting and packing supplies and spending thousands of dollars shipping them abroad. Instead she thought it would be more efficient if the non-profits could buy the goods nearer to their target destination.

“If we can buy flowers for anyone anywhere in the world,” said Levinson, “why can’t we buy a pair of shoes from a local business for a refugee in Greece?”

To achieve this, Levinson partnered with long-time friend, Natasha Freidus who ran into a similar issue in France. Freidus realized that volunteer groups in Europe who were working with the recent influx of refugees were lacking the tools they needed to effectively manage their work.

Now, the two friends have combined their resources to create NeedsList, an online platform that allows NGOs to list the supplies they need for refugees so they can be procured locally. The website also helps coordinate volunteers and raise funds for the essential supplies.
