Plymouth Meeting’s Maple Acres Farm Serving the Local Community for over a Century
The McKeown family owned thirty-acre Maple Acres Farm in Plymouth Meeting has been a trusted local go-to spot for produce since 1912, writes M. English for The Colonial.
The farm, now run by Gary McKeown, is known for having some of the best fruit and vegetables in the area. It is also famous for its beef, dairy, jams and condiments. In addition, the farm is well known for its community sustained agriculture package that provides members with a weekly delivery of seasonal blooms.
Maple Acres also offers farm tours and pony rides, rents out horse stalls, and hosts special events such as yoga and cooking classes, company meetings, birthday parties, and weddings.
Now, to ensure the farm’s ongoing role in the local community, McKeown has joined the state regional Agricultural Security Area to obtain relief from some municipal laws and ordinances. It is also currently applying for more state relief.
“I want to do anything I can to keep this space open,” said McKeown. “Being the last farm around here in Plymouth, that’s important to me.”
