The Main Line Chamber Foundation has set the date for the 20th annual GIANT Main Line 5K Run/Walk for Sunday, Sept. 10. The nonprofit also kicked off sponsor recruitment by announcing a $10,000 donation from GIANT Food Stores.

The event, which features a 5K run and 1.5-mile walk, is the primary fundraiser for The Main Line Emergency Responders Scholarship Program.

In 2016, the event attracted 500 participants and raised a major part of the $53,000 in scholarships awarded to local volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians at a Home Town Heroes ceremony at the Lower Merion Township Building in June.

GIANT was honored with a certificate for its five years as the title sponsor of the run and walk, which occurs through the streets of Wayne and temporarily closes parts of Lancaster and North Wayne avenues, starting at 8:30 AM.

“Participating in the Main Line 5K Run/Walk is a great complement to GIANT’s focus on helping our customers eat well and make better choices,” said Tom Lenkevich, GIANT president. “As a responsible retailer, GIANT is committed to helping build healthier communities and supporting our local first responders.”

Corporate sponsorships offer a great opportunity to give back to the local community while promoting businesses in front of hundreds of participants from 7-10 AM on the day of the race.

Sponsors and companies throughout the region enter teams of runners in the Sunday morning race, which awards team trophies, special medals for age-group winners, and cash prizes for the fastest three male and female finishers. Many companies participate as part of their wellness programs.
