From watching the big screen to directing it, Hatboro’s Matt Spicer is now firmly in the Hollywood big leagues with “Ingrid Goes West,” writes Gary Thompson for Philly.com.

Spicer’s love of movies began at Upper Moreland High School when he began to look at art movies in a new light, largely due to films such as Sexy Beast, Boogie Nights, and Magnolia.

“They were all so different from the mass-market stuff that came through the multiplex, and it was the director’s voice that made them so different,” said Spicer. “That was a real lightbulb moment for me.”

He has now achieved his goal with the acidly funny “Ingrid Goes West.” The movie is based on his idea to satirize the Los Angeles’ social media scene that is reshaping the city.

The story, which is receiving rave reviews, focuses on a young woman’s obsession with a glamorous Instagram star. It combines comedy and drama and is carried along by Spicer’s unique voice.

However Spicer is keeping his next project a secret, but he did reveal that it is an adaptation of a book he loves and will focus on technology.
