Peggy Lee-Clark, the newly hired director of Pottstown Area Industrial Development Corp and former board member, believes that Pottstown is on the verge of an economic breakthrough, writes Evan Brandt for The Mercury.

As head of PAID, Lee-Clark is the borough’s top independent economic development officer.

“Great things are going to happen, but we’ll get there faster once people stop believing the value of some properties is more than it is at this point,” she said.

This refers to several architectural gems in the town that need a lot of work to be brought up to modern standards. Lee-Clark said that it is important for people to understand that if a new business has to spend too much on its location, it will not have the necessary capital to be successful.

However, she added that developers “can’t be wed to one idea, they have to be fluid as conditions, both market conditions and the conditions on the ground, change.”

She believes that Pottstown’s greatest asset is its wealth and diversity of available properties. The town has some great spaces downtown, as well as older industrial properties that just need to be re-imagined.
