AstraZeneca Hope Lodge in Cheltenham is providing cancer patients with help and hope when they need it the most, writes Mark Hiller for PA homepage.

Cancer patients and their caregivers have been able to stay at the American Cancer Society run facility for free while receiving treatment in Philadelphia since it opened its doors eight years ago. Hope Lodge has 37 identical rooms so that every guest can enjoy the same level of comfort.

“We’ve saved patients and their families a little more than $14 million in lodging or hotel costs over that period of time,” said AtraZeneca Hope Lodge’s Manager, Byron Barksdale.

Last year, the lodge welcomed 1,200 guests mostly from northeastern and central Pennsylvania. However, Pennsylvanians are not the only guests to enjoy free lodging at the facility, as many of its guests come from other states and abroad.

This highlighted by the push pins on a map by the reception desk.

“If you see the map, there’s people from all around the world,” said Martin Miralda, one of facility’s patrons.
