Sixty-six-year-old Marie John who lives in Jeffersonville and has a master’s degree in behavioral health attended the event. She has been unemployed for a year.
After working as a vocational counselor for Pennsylvania’s Department of Labor, John said that it has been hard to find a job “because I have a master’s degree and the salary range is very low in this field.”
At 28 percent, Montgomery County has the second highest unemployment rate of highly educated people out of the 130 largest counties nationwide.
However, Jennifer Butler, executive director of MontcoWorks, said that the highly educated demographics of the unemployed did not surprise her.
“Montco is an affluent and highly educated county, so it makes sense our unemployment would be the same,” she said.
