In partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, PECO will recognize Arbor Day by giving away 100 trees to residents in Montgomery County, and donating an additional 20 trees to organizations across the county.

The Montgomery County Commissioners will join PECO officials today at Norristown Farm Park – 500 Upper Farm Road in Norristown – at 10:30 AM for a tree planting. Tree pick-up will be from 3-7 PM.

The two- to four-foot trees will come in five gallon buckets, ready for planting, and will be available in the following species:

  • Red Maple
  • Serviceberry
  • Eastern Redbud
  • Black Gum
  • Sycamore
  • Red Oak

To reserve a tree, Montgomery County residents must register by clicking here.

PECO employee volunteers will be on-site at the tree pick-up locations to assist residents with picking up and loading the trees, as well as to answer any questions.

Arbor Day is a holiday in which individuals and groups are encouraged to plant and care for trees. When planted in the right place, trees can help reduce energy use through summer shading and slowing cold winter winds.

According to the Arbor Day Foundation, once trees are fully grown, they can lower energy costs by up to 20 percent.
