Ardent Credit Union recently celebrated the grand opening of its Oaks location on 110 Black Rock Road with family festivities.

Included in the fun was a raffle for a YETI cooler, won by MONTCO Today publisher and editor Ken Knickerbocker. But it didn’t remain in his hands very long.

The owner of American Community Journals and a lifelong advocate of the work of civic-minded organizations and nonprofits, Knickerbocker immediately donated the cooler to Sweet Fields.

Sweet Fields is an organic farm and education center located within Norristown Farm Park. Its mission is to lower barriers to healthy eating by providing educational content and fresh produce for all.

Sweet Fields grows organic produce, donates to food banks, and increases the accessibility of fresh produce in food deserts.

“This cooler is exactly what we needed for our farmer’s market,” said Barbara Donnini, the Executive Director of Sweet Fields.

“Every week, our farmer will bring fresh local fruits and vegetables to our table at Einstein Hospital for the community to purchase. The cooler will prevent the more sensitive produce from wilting or spoiling.

“Sweet Fields will also be producing food that will be donated to local food banks.”

William Croswell, manager of the Ardent Credit Union in Oaks, was excited to oversee the connection between MONTCO Today and Sweet Fields.

“We’re very excited to be working with Barbara Donnini and her team at Sweet Fields,” Croswell said. “Like us, they are for bettering their communities and bringing people together for a common purpose.

“We are glad that we were able to connect Ken and Barb together through our new branch here in Oaks.”
