Chester County helped produce one of college basketball’s winningest coaches, and now it can claim a Hall of Famer.

Muffet McGraw, the women’s hoops coach at Notre Dame with more than 800 wins and a national championship on her resume, will be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as part of its Class of 2017, according to a Philadelphia Inquirer report by Bob Ford.

McGraw grew up as Ann O’Brien in the halls of Bishop Shanahan High School in West Chester, married WCU alum Matt McGraw 40 years ago this year, and got her first coaching job in Radnor at Archbishop Carroll High School.

“Life is an amazing journey, and there are so many people along the way that have helped me in so many ways,” McGraw said. “And it’s a great time to reflect back on all of them.”

The official Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place in September in Springfield, Mass.
