Italian lessons with a Bryn Mawr professor nearly three decades ago led to the formation of Il Circolo Italiano of the Main Line, an Italian club that has since helped preserve the language, culture, and camaraderie of the boot shaped country, writes Linda Stein for Mainline Media News.

The Italian Circle promotes the Italian language through lessons and opportunities to practice speaking. It also includes cultural programs, fellowships, and delicious Italian and Mediterranean food.

The Club has been led for the past two years by Theresa Scaramuzza of Havertown, who has been a member of the Circle for ten years.

“It’s a great group of people of all ages,” she told Mainline Media News.

Scaramuzza learned about the club when she enrolled in Italian classes at the Main Line School Night where she met one of the club’s founders, Joseph Tatta, a former teacher at The Haverford School.

The club meets once a month at the Woodlynde School in Strafford, and welcomes descendants from Italian immigrants who have settled in the region and other interested participants.
