AlliedUniversal, formed by the merger between AlliedBarton Security Services and Universal Services of America, is keeping its Conshohocken headquarters, writes Joseph DiStefano for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Before the merger, Universal absorbed the former Guardsmark and ABM Security to consolidate the split rent-a-guard business and associated cleaning and support services. Now the largest security services company in North America with 140,000 workers and $4.5 billion in annual sales, AlliedUniversal is maintaining a headquarters in both Conshohocken and Santa Ana, Calif.

Universal boss Steve Jones will serve as CEO of the newly formed company while William C. Whitmore Jr., from AlliedBarton will chair the AlliedUniversal board.

Jones recently discussed the new company, its dual headquarters, and being the head of AlliedUniversal.

“I live here in Southern California; we’ve got several other Universal executives staying on who are here. And we’ve got several ex-AlliedBarton executives that are at Conshohocken,” Jones said when asked how one company can be run from two headquarters. “HR, Sales, and Marketing teams are here in California. Finance, accounting, shared services will be based in Conshohocken.”

He went on to name Bill Torzolini, the CFO of the new AlliedUniversal, as the top boss at Conshohocken.

“I’ll be in Conshy every other week. I see it as a benefit, because our two biggest client presences are really in the Northeast and in California,” Jones said.
