As one of the few remaining mansions that used to populate Cheltenham Township in Montgomery County prior to World War II, this elegant home is steeped in history, writes Sandy Smith for Philadelphia Magazine.

Built by pioneering Philadelphia chemical manufacturer Samuel Wetherill and designed by architect John Graham Jr. nearly a century ago, the Wetherill Cottage is tucked away on a 3.87-acre estate accessed through a tree-lined driveway, marked by a stone post on Willow Grove Avenue.

The main house has four bedrooms with two more in the separate guest home. The interior has been painstakingly preserved to keep its original styling, while providing all the amenities of a modern home.

A brick fireplace and built-in bookshelves ensure that the living room has kept its Colonial appearance, while the kitchen has been fully upgraded while retaining its rustic charm.

A dining patio surrounded by flora-filled, stone-lined planter beds offers a unique backdrop for summer meals, while the inviting side porch, covered in rare white wisteria, completes the outside.

The beautiful, secluded home is listed by agent Scott Laughlin from BHHS Fox & Roach for $789,000.
