Jeffrey Fecher is Abington’s new school superintenent

Following criticism over its handling of a $25 million donation, the Abington school board has named Jeffrey Fecher superintendent of schools.(MONTCO.Today file photo)

The Abington school  board has announced that Assistant Superintendent Jeffrey Fecher  will succeed retiring Superintendent Amy Sichel.

The decision comes in the wake of a controversy over the board’s handling of a controversial $25 million gift from a Wall Street billionaire and Abington alumnus Stephen

Schwartzman, writes Kathy Bocella at philly.com.

The board came under fire when, months after the gift was announced, it voted to rename the high school after Schwarzman with virtually no public notice.

Sichel gave no indication that her decision to retire was linked to the  flap.
