Philadelphia-area retailers lead the country in growth

It looks like smooth sailing ahead for some of major retailers based in the Philadelphia area.

Those shops, which include Five Below, Burlington Coat Factory and Wawa, made the National Retail Federation’s annual list of the nation’s fastest growing 100 companies this year, writes Natalie Kostelni at bizjournals.com.

Five Below, which had 625 stores last year, made the top 10, with 28 percent in sales growth to $1.3 billion.

Other local companies that made the list include Weiss, Ikea-North America, Pep Boys and AmerisourceBergen’s network of independent pharmacies that go under the Good Neighbor Pharmacy brand.

Primark is the No. 1 retailer growing in the United States, having seen sales rise by 103 percent to $9.8 billion last year. The Irish company opened its first Greater Philadelphia location at the King of Prussia Mall a few years back; it was one of its first U.S. locations. A store in Willow Grove Park Mall followed.
