If you are a fan of Dunkirk or the Darkest Hour it might be time to go back to school.

In early March, Manor College celebrated the launch of their Military History Institute in partnership with the Delaware Valley Civil War Round Table. It is the only one of its kind in Montgomery County.

As part of its continuing education, Manor College inserted classes about World War II into their Civil War Institute Curriculum. Due to a positive response, they have added classes to cover all military history.

Historian/Lecturer Herb Kaufman is an adjunct faculty member at the Jenkintown college and mentions his pride in, “the only college institute in our area that is singularly devoted to presenting history in a continuing education environment.”

“We found that members of the community have an interest in many aspects of history, not only the Civil War.  With the view of reaching out to more members of our community, we have inaugurated the new History Institute at Manor College,” said Kaufman. “We believe that this wide variety of course offerings will be stimulating and thought provoking. We very much hope that once the community becomes aware of our intriguing line of course offerings, and more people will indulge their curiosity about the course of history.”

Classes are held on select evenings starting at 6:30 p.m., taught by members of the Delaware Valley Civil War Round Table, and cover topics spanning from the dawn of the Roman Empire to the twilight of the 20th century. Classes include: Et Tu, Brute? The Assassination of Julius Caesar; Crimsoned Prairie: The Plains Indian Wars: 1864-1876; Up Periscope:  A View of Submarine Warfare in World War II; “Duel at Dawn”; World War II on the Big Screen;

“In the classic tradition of story telling, instructors enchant and entertain participants by delving into the personal drama and intrigue of the men and women who lived through truly tumultuous times thus conveying not just episodic facts and figures, but revealing the greater thread that connects us all to the tapestry of history,” said Nicholas Rudnytzky, Chair of Adult and Continuing Education

The Delaware Valley Civil War Round Table is a group of history enthusiasts with a membership of about one hundred people. They hold a history symposium at Manor College every year. This year’s program “Hold that ground at all hazards” – Perspectives on the Battle of Gettysburg, will be held on May 19th on the 2nd floor of the Basilead Library on the Manor Campus.
