Philadelphia Lands French 3D Bioprinting Firm Ctibiotech As Life Sciences Sector Grows

Ctibiotech USA's new North American headquarters at BioLabs Philadelphia.

Philadelphia’s life sciences scene has its newest contributor, with an European flair.

Ctibiotech, a French biotechnology firm specializing in lab-grown human tissues, has chosen the city for its North American headquarters, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal

The company planted its flag at BioLabs Philadelphia, as it eyes scaling its 3D bioprinting and human tissue engineering technologies for the U.S. market.

Operating from BioLabs will allow the company to work closely with researchers, startups, and medical institutions across the region as it builds its North American footprint.

Ctibiotech’s technology reads like science fiction made practical. That is 3D-bioprinted skin, tumor models, and stem cell-based bioassays engineered to mimic real human biology with remarkable precision.

The goal is to give pharmaceutical and biomedical companies a faster, more accurate path through drug development and cancer research that doesn’t rely on animal testing.

So why Philadelphia?

The city emerged as an attractive destination because of its concentration of universities, hospitals, biotech startups, and pharmaceutical companies.

Ctibiotech officials also cited the city’s collaborative research environment and growing reputation as a global life sciences hub.

“Philadelphia represents the perfect nexus of top-tier academic research and medical institutions and a thriving biopharmaceutical industry,” said Dr. Nico Forraz, CEO of Ctibiotech USA.

It’s a credible case as Philadelphia has spent years quietly assembling one of the country’s most formidable life sciences corridors, and international firms are increasingly taking notice.

The company expects its expansion to create roughly 35 specialized biotech jobs over the next several years. While a modest number, it’s a field where talent is scarce and expertise runs deep.

Regional leaders say Ctibiotech’s arrival strengthens Greater Philadelphia’s standing in cutting-edge biomedical innovation, particularly in cell therapy, tissue engineering, and advanced therapeutics.
