World Cup excitement is coming to Ardmore on July 3, writes Richard Ilgenfritz for Main Line Times & Suburban.

Tired Hands Fermentaria and the Downtown Ardmore District will transform Schauffele Plaza into an outdoor soccer celebration. It takes place one night before Philadelphia hosts a Round of 16 match at Lincoln Financial Field.

An Evening of Soccer, Food, and Games

The event runs from 5 to 10 PM and coincides with Ardmore’s July First Friday festivities. Plans include an outdoor World Cup game screening, a miniature soccer field on artificial turf, live music, cornhole, and additional lawn games.

The plaza and its adjoining parking lot, one of eleven Township-owned public lots in the Ardmore commercial district, will serve as the event footprint.

Township Approves Alcohol Waiver

Lower Merion’s Board of Commissioners recently approved a waiver allowing alcohol to be served and consumed within designated public areas during the event.

Township regulations normally prohibit open containers on public property, but commissioners may approve exceptions for special community gatherings.

The event remains subject to the Downtown Ardmore District providing required insurance documentation.

A rain date has been set for July 14 from 5 to 10 PM.

Part of a Bigger Ardmore World Cup Moment

The plaza celebration builds on tournament energy already taking shape inside Ardmore businesses. Local restaurants and bars have been showing matches, offering food and drink specials, and creating gathering places for fans following teams from around the world.

Together, those efforts give Ardmore its own role in the Philadelphia region’s World Cup summer. It combines international competition with the food, nightlife, and community events that define the downtown district.
