Immaculata University recently welcomed world-renowned autism advocate Dr. Temple Grandin for a community event celebrating neurodiversity and inclusion.

The free event, held in conjunction with the Chester County Intermediate Unit, drew two sold-out, in-person sessions and a robust livestream audience, bringing together families, educators, and community members from across Chester County.

Dr. Grandin is a distinguished animal scientist, New York Times best-selling author, and one of the most prominent autism advocates in the world. She is the subject of the Emmy Award-winning HBO film Temple Grandin, has been named one of Time magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World,” and was honored as a 2025 Smithsonian “Portrait of a Nation” honoree.

Drawing on her lived experience and decades of research, Dr. Grandin offered attendees a compelling, firsthand look at what it means to think and experience the world differently. Her presentations explored sensory experiences, visual thinking strategies, and the transformative power of embracing neurodiversity as a strength.

“Bringing the Chester County community together for this event was nothing short of extraordinary,” said Andrew Reigle, the CCIU’s Special Education Supervisor. “Welcoming Temple Grandin to share her voice and perspective created a powerful, lasting impact — one that celebrated neurodiversity, elevated understanding, and inspired action. Seeing hundreds of people come together in support of individuals with autism was a reminder of what is possible when a community leads with purpose, inclusion, and heart.”

“We are deeply grateful to the Chester County Intermediate Unit for bringing the powerful and transformative messages of Dr. Temple Grandin to Immaculata University,” said Dr. Melissa Reed, Chair of Immaculata’s Division of Education.
