Freedom Village at Brandywine Residents Raise $115,000 in Funds to Advance Employee Education, Careers

A $115,000 resident fundraiser at Freedom Village this year went toward scholarships for eligible Freedom Village employees.

Demonstrating the generosity and community spirit that define life at Freedom Village at Brandywine, residents there raised $115,000 to put toward scholarships for 27 employees announced during the community’s 20th annual scholarship awards ceremony held in the Greg Welch Auditorium.

The scholarships, funded entirely through contributions from Freedom Village residents, support employees pursuing higher education and professional advancement.

What began as a resident-led initiative two decades ago has become a powerful example of how senior living communities can create lasting opportunities for those who serve them. This year, residents exceeded the scholarship fund’s original fundraising goal of $75,000 by raising an impressive $115,000.

The Freedom Village Brandywine Scholarship Fund helps employees continue their education, develop new skills, and pursue career growth while remaining committed members of the Freedom Village team. By investing in employee success, residents help strengthen the community’s culture of excellence, compassion, and lifelong learning.

“I feel so lucky to be supported in my educational journey by the amazing residents of Freedom Village Brandywine Scholarship,” said Catherine Rosfelder, scholarship recipient and caregiver at Freedom Village. “I’m incredibly grateful for all of the residents who have made this possible.”

For many recipients, the scholarships ease financial burdens and open doors to educational opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach. The program reflects the deep connections formed between residents and employees and showcases the meaningful impact residents can have on the lives and futures of those around them.

“This initiative demonstrates how much deeper the term ‘community’ goes for us at Freedom Village,” said Gail Woods, resident and president of the scholarship fund. “For 20 years, residents have chosen to invest in the education and success of our employees. Their generosity continues to transform lives, strengthen our community, and create opportunities for future generations.”

To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must have worked at Freedom Village throughout the previous year and submit current academic transcripts along with letters of recommendation, including one from their immediate supervisor.

The Freedom Village Brandywine Scholarship Fund, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization, is supported through tax-deductible contributions from Freedom Village residents as well as their friends and family members. Since its inception, the program has embodied the community’s commitment to giving back, supporting education, and fostering personal and professional growth.
