Montgomery County is moving forward with a $2.28 million investment in trail development, including a key contract awarded to a Fort Washington-based engineering firm, according to Rachel Ravina for Wiss Now.
County commissioners recently approved two agreements for preliminary engineering work tied to the Cross County Trail East project. One $1.35 million contract was awarded to Fort Washington’s Michael Baker International for work in Upper Moreland, while a separate $934,395 agreement went to Bowman Consulting Group for a section spanning Upper Dublin and Upper Moreland.
The projects are largely funded through federal dollars, with additional support from the county’s capital improvement program. The trail expansions are expected to enhance connectivity and recreational access across multiple Montgomery County communities.
Beyond infrastructure, commissioners also addressed several community-focused initiatives during the meeting. New appointments were made to the county’s Open Space Board and the Office of Children and Youth’s Citizen Advisory Committee, reinforcing oversight and planning efforts in those areas.
Officials also authorized a new request for proposals tied to meal delivery services for older adults. The program aims to support residents aged 60 and older who are homebound.
Public comment highlighted the importance of those services, with residents advocating for accessible, hands-on delivery options for seniors facing mobility challenges.
