Montgomery County drivers who rely on the Pennsylvania Turnpike may want to double-check their accounts this spring, writes Marcela Camargo and Deanna Durante for NBC10 Philadelphia.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is partnering with the Pennsylvania State Police for a new enforcement initiative aimed at cracking down on unpaid tolls and aggressive driving. The effort, launching in April, marks the first time toll enforcement will involve direct traffic stops tied to outstanding balances.
Drivers who owe at least $250 in unpaid tolls or have multiple unpaid invoices could face registration suspension through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation — and if pulled over, their vehicles may be impounded. Officials say more than 67,000 vehicles statewide are already under suspension.
In addition to toll enforcement, troopers will be targeting unsafe behaviors like speeding and erratic lane changes, reinforcing what officials describe as a push for safer, fairer roadways.
For commuters who frequently travel the Turnpike corridor, the message is simple: pay outstanding balances or risk costly penalties and disruptions.
